a thousand years ago, to honor his parents, wang shenzhi, the princeof min, erected a pagoda here. legend says a brilliant pearl was unearthed when its foundation was laid, giving rise to its name: the "dingguang pagoda" on fuzhou's yu hill.
with its snow-white body, it is known to all as the "white pagoda." though once destroyed by lightning and fire, it was reborn in the ming dynasty. from that day on, it has stood watching over the nearby wu pagoda from afar, creating the thousand-year-old legacy of the "twin pagodas of the banyan city."
