quanzhou's donghu park occupies the historical site of “fragrant lotuses of donghu,” one of ancient quanzhou's famed “eight great scenic spots.” as far back as the tang dynasty, this area boasted a lake sprawling over 40 qing (an ancient unit of area), graced by the donghu pavilion and the er'gong pavilion.
donghu itself gained renown as it was a place frequented by illustrious tang dynasty literary figures such as jiang gongfu, han yu, and ouyang zhan.
